The carfax report said it was in a major collision at 33,000 miles. Since this was 130,000 miles prior to me buying it I wasn't very concerned, but I did go over it very thoroughly. I used to help out at a body shop so I knew a lot about what to look for. It had obviously been painted. But when I checked it closer you could see that all the body panels matched the factory color prior to the horrific paint job it received. I could tell there was a little filler in a couple spots, but nothing major. I pulled back a few interior panels and crawled around under the car and was unable to find any weld lines or anything like that. So it didn't look like someone had installed a new clip (would usually happen when doing $25,000+ in damage). The rear subframe had one of the lower suspension mounts repaired where the car had obviously been struct at one of the wheels, but everything was still strait and it didn't appear that could have been a major accident. The VIN number on the dash matches the VIN number on the back glass which is usually a good sign. I was working on a website for a friend who has been in autobody for a very long time and is now doing custom paint and body work out of his own shop. I had him look over the car when I was there talking business with him one day and he said everything was in order (besides the ugly ass paint:)) and he suspects that the VIN numbers were switched from the car that was really totaled to mine which had probably just been clipped. It's actually very common but also very illegal. but I still came out with a solid car out of it so I don't really care.
